Lost professions

The world develops rapidly. The world changes, develops and is updated almost every day. Every day new professions appear and develop a lot. And people almost don't mention ancient professions that don't exist any more. They are mentioned only in old books and in text-books on history as well as in historical novels. Some ancient professions are unknown to us and when people hear them they get surprised.

Some professions turned into hobbies. But there are also a lot of professions that are more than thousand years old and are considered to be the most ancient. Philosopher, soldier, teacher, poet, and many other professions are considered to be the most ancient in the world, but which are still popular and important nowadays.

Here are some ancient professions that don't exist nowadays:

- File maker is disappeared profession. Nowadays machines and highly-developed equipment produce files, but in ancient times people had to do it. One had to study 5 years to receive the right to work as file maker. This profession existed till the beginning of the 20th century.

- Original mirror manufacture disappeared in the 17th century. At that time mirror was made of iron, gold, bronze, silver, stone, tin, etc. The surface of these materials was polished well until it was possible to see the reflection in it. Later, when glass was created and people of Vienna learned to turn it into the mirror, method of polishing was forgotten.

- Toys maker. In ancient times this occupation was one of the most prestigious and most important. People became rich thanks to it. Hand-made toys are valuable even nowadays. Usually people turned to this occupation after getting experience working as chaser, tailor, joiner, painter, etc. Very often people of these professions gathered to make one toy. Carpenter made the toy of the wood, painter coloured the toy, tailor made clothes for the toy, etc.

- Bathhouse attendants and barbers were responsible for keeping people clean till the beginning of the 19th century. Baths and saunas appeared in Europe thanks to crusaders who travelled to the east and told people about bathes. And bath was the place where people could cut their hair, wash their bodies and clothes.

There are a lot of other ancient professions that disappeared. It is connected with many reasons: first of all people loose necessity in this work; secondly technological means substitute the work of people, and at last professions disappear with the disappearance of interest to them.
